Julian Voloj is a New York–based writer whose work has been published in The New York Times, Rolling Stone, The Washington Post and many other national and international publications.
Born to Colombian parents in Germany, where he studied literature and linguistics, Voloj moved to New York in 2004. His fascination for forgotten heroes and hidden figures stems from his own family history and has been a leitmotif in his non-fiction graphic novels, including “Ghetto Brother” (illustrated by Claudia Ahlering, NBM, 2015), “Joe Shuster” (ill. Thomas Campi, Papercutz, 2018), “Basquiat” (ill. Soren Modal, SelfMadeHero, 2019) and “Clayton: Godfather of Lower East Side Documentary” (various, Post Hill Press, 2022). He recently released “Black & White: The Rise and Fall of Bobby Fischer” and his next graphic novel, “(Not) A NY Love Story” is due September 5th (ill. Andreas Gefe, FairSquare Comics).
