Ari Richter

bio

Ari Richter (he/him) is a New York-based visual artist and comics creator, born in Tampa, Florida in 1983. He received a fully public education from grade school to grad school, and is a Professor of Fine Arts at LaGuardia Community College in The City University of New York. His debut book, Never Again Will I Visit Auschwitz: A Graphic Family Memoir of Trauma & Inheritance is published by Fantagraphics Books (2024). The grandson of Holocaust survivors and son of therapists, he lives in New York with his wife and two children.    Richter has received fellowships from the Mellon Foundation/American Council of Learned Societies, and the Memorial Foundation for Jewish Culture, multiple project grants from the CUNY Research Foundation, and residencies from the Vermont Studio Center and the University of Texas at Dallas. His drawings, sculptures, videos and performances have been presented at institutions across the U.S. including The Skirball Cultural Center (Los Angeles, CA), The Capital Jewish Museum (Washington, D.C.), The Tampa Museum of Art (Tampa, FL), The Spartanburg Art Museum (Spartanburg, SC), The Weatherspoon Art Museum (Greensboro, NC), CentralTrak Gallery (Dallas, TX), The New-York Historical Society (New York, NY) and Celebrate Brooklyn! Festival (Brooklyn, NY).
